Quarterly Meeting Notes

On Thursday April 4th we held our first meeting of the year. I would like to thank all (26 members in total) that came out and participated in the meeting. I think you will all agree that we had a good meeting as well as a good steak dinner. Ashley did a great job so when you see her be sure to let her know you appreciated all she did to help.

I thought it appropriate to share my notes from the meeting for those that were not able to attend.

  • Weekly Matches – Lots of discussion and some good ideas came out of the discussion about our Weekly Matches. We voted to go back to the way we used to decide the picking order – draw pills. The group also has requested that the BOD look at other options that might make it more fair to all participants. One of the primary suggestions was to use a program to assign teams based on a formula that would balance the team strength according to handicap. The BOD will come up with a couple of others and “put it to a vote”. You will receive an email when this occurs. If you are  not already receiving the posts that go out after every Weekly Match, please use the “Follow by Email” link on this website to enroll. If you are having trouble with this, please give me a call.
  • Fall Weekend Trip – We will be investigating options for the Fall outing we have done the last couple of years. We have been going to Valdosta the last couple of years, but will look at other options too this year. If you have a preference, please leave a comment below.
  • Tournament Sponsorship – There was some discussion about the MGA helping by either sponsoring a new tournament or assisting with the sponsorship of an existing tournament. If we run a new tournament the consensus seemed to be leaning towards a 3-man Scramble. If we help with an existing tournament it will most likely be with the Member/Guest. There will be more to come on this in the near future.
  • “Ryder Cup Match” – We have a match with Grand Island in Albany the weekend of May 18-19th. We already have 24 signed up to participate but it would be nice if we could get a couple of alternates signed up in case something comes up.
  • Cart Paths: Although we have been doing a little better lately, there is still a lot that needs to be done to help take care of the course by staying on the cart path in the appropriate areas as well as making wise choices to stay away from certain areas. Left of #8, left of #9, and the “big tree” on 16 seem to be the biggest problem areas. Lets all do our part by letting the grass grow in these areas. In addition, please leave both wheels on the cart path around the greens and tee boxes.
Once again, thanks for those that came out. We want this to be your MGA and the best way to have your opinions heard is to attend the meetings. The next “get together” will be at Wayne Simmons’ “pond house” on May 25th. I will post more on that as it approaches. The plan is to “eat what we catch”, so all are welcome to come out and have a fun day fishing.
Jody
